What elimination is

Elimination is being removed from a Speed Survivor contest before the final whistle. Once eliminated, you stop answering and stop accruing points. There are three ways it happens: a wrong answer in a single-life contest, losing your last life in a multi-life contest, or falling below the line at a cut, where the bottom of the field by points is removed.

In a single-life contest, the points you banked before the wrong answer still count for placement when the contest settles. Elimination ends your scoring; it does not erase what you already earned.

An example

Three hypothetical players enter the same multi-life contest. The first runs out of lives late in the second quarter. The second never loses a life but answers slowly and falls below the line at the halftime cut. The third survives both and plays to the end. Two different routes to elimination, one survivor, and it is the survivors who are ranked for the split.

Why elimination is the point

Elimination is what makes a survivor format a survivor format. Like the weekly knockout in an elimination pool, it turns every question into a decision with consequences, and it is why the field shrinks across the game rather than sitting still until the end.
