Settlement

What settlement is

Settlement is the point at which a contest is finished for good: every question has resolved, final points are counted, the surviving entrants are ranked, and prizes are paid down the payout tiers. Before settlement, the leaderboard is provisional. After it, the results are final.

It is the last of three moments in a contest's life. The contest locks at kickoff, the questions play out during the game, and the contest settles once they resolve.

An example

The DET Lions at BUF Bills contest kicked off at 8:15 PM ET on Thursday, September 17, 2026. It settled that night. The podium was @DiscoHeck on 2,263 points for $1,000, @Turk on 2,260 for $405 and @chaseg3 on 2,052 for $200, and 37 more entrants cashed. The recap went up on the Discord the next day.

Compare that to a season-long survivor pool, which may not settle until January, long after most of the people in it were eliminated. A pool that settles the same night means the people who won can see it, and the people who did not can enter the next game knowing exactly where they stand.

When a game does not finish normally

The Contest Rules have a section on interrupted, postponed, suspended and shortened events. In short, questions that settled stand, and the contest page states how the rest is handled.
