What the leaderboard is

The leaderboard is the ranking of every entrant in a contest by points, updated live as the game is played. Each correct answer earns speed points, a base amount plus a bonus that grows the faster you answered, and the leaderboard reorders as those points land. Players you follow carry a following badge, so you can find them in a large field without scrolling.

It is the scoreboard for the contest rather than for the game. The Bills can be losing while you climb, and a blowout on the field can still produce a tight finish on the board, because every entrant is answering the same questions about the same plays.

An example

Late in the DET Lions at BUF Bills contest, the top of the leaderboard was as tight as it gets. When it settled, @DiscoHeck finished first on 2,263 points and @Turk second on 2,260. With a margin that thin, every question in the closing minutes could reorder the top of the board.

What moves it

Two things move you up: being right and being fast. Two things take you off it: a wrong answer in a single-life contest, or finishing below a cut, which removes the bottom of the field at set points. Eliminated entrants stop adding points, though the points they already banked still count for placement.

In Speed Survivor

When the game ends, the leaderboard becomes the final order, and the surviving entrants are paid down the payout tiers from the top. The top three form the podium shown on each recap. How it works explains the scoring in full.
