No house

What no house means

"The house" is the operator on the other side of every wager in a casino or a sportsbook. It sets the price, it takes the opposite position, and it pays winners out of its own money. No house means none of that exists. The company running the game is not a participant in it. It does not set a price on any outcome, does not take a side, and does not win when you lose.

An example

At a sportsbook, a prop on whether a team scores on its next drive is offered at a price the book chose. The price includes a margin, the vig, so the book expects to come out ahead across all its customers whichever way the drive goes. If you win, the book pays you.

In Speed Survivor, a similar yes-or-no question about the next drive appears for every entrant at the same moment, with no price attached. Answering correctly earns points, answering faster earns more, and at the end of the game the entrants still standing split a pool the field funded. Nobody at Speed Labs is on the other side of your answer.

In Speed Survivor

Speed Labs sets the question, never a price, and takes no position in any contest. Prize pools are funded by the entries in each contest and held by a third-party custodian, and Speed Labs may add prizes on top. You are playing against the other entrants, and what separates the field is knowledge of the game and speed of judgment. That is why Speed Survivor is a skill-based contest and is described that way in the Contest Rules.
