What a one-game survivor contest is

A one-game survivor contest keeps what makes a survivor pool work, a shrinking field where mistakes knock you out, and fits the whole thing inside a single game. Instead of a pick every week for a season, the eliminating moments happen during the game itself, and the contest is decided when the game ends. There is no week-two exit followed by four months of watching, and no waiting until January to find out who won.

The format needs something to decide inside a game, which is why it is built on questions about what happens next rather than on picking a winner. Each question is a small survival test, and the field narrows as the game goes on.

An example

Say you enter a Thursday night contest before kickoff. In the first quarter a question asks whether the offense converts on third down; you answer yes quickly and bank points. Late in the second quarter you miss one. At halftime a cut removes the bottom of the field, and you are just above the line. You answer the second-half questions carefully, survive to the final whistle, and finish inside the paid tiers.

In Speed Survivor

Speed Survivor is a one-game survivor contest. Each contest is tied to one live NFL game and asks twelve yes-or-no questions, one about every five minutes of game clock, generated from what is happening on the field. A correct answer earns base points plus a speed bonus that grows the faster you answer. Single-life contests end your run on one wrong answer; multi-life contests give a set number of lives. Cuts remove the bottom of the field at set points, with one at halftime at launch and a move toward the end of each quarter. The survivors split a pool funded by the entries, the same night.
