Round

One question's window, about every five minutes of game clock; twelve rounds make a contest.

Also called: question window

What a round is

A round is one question's life in a Speed Survivor contest: the question appears, the answer window is open, the window closes, and the question settles on what happens on the field. A contest has twelve rounds spread across the game, roughly one every five minutes of game clock, which works out to about three a quarter.

Within a round, timing matters twice. The window is short, so you have to answer before it closes to score at all. And the speed bonus shrinks as the window runs down, so a correct answer given early is worth more than the same answer given late.

An example

Picture the fourth round of a hypothetical contest, early in the second quarter. The question asks whether the current drive ends in points. You answer yes quickly, the drive stalls at the forty and the punt team comes out, and the round settles: no points for you on that one, while everyone who said no scores base points plus whatever speed bonus their timing earned. Then the next round begins with a new question.

Rounds and cuts

Rounds are also the clock the cuts run on. A cut falls at a set point in the game, after a set number of rounds, and removes the bottom of the field by points at that moment. At launch there is a single cut at halftime.

In Speed Survivor

Twelve rounds is the whole entry. There is no lineup and no pregame pick; once the contest reaches lock at kickoff, every point you score comes from answering live questions one round at a time. How it works lays out a full game round by round.
