Base points

What base points are

Base points are the fixed part of a correct answer's score in Speed Survivor. Everyone who answers a live question correctly receives the same base amount for it, whether they answered in the first moment or the last. On top of that sits the speed bonus, which varies with how quickly you answered. Together the two make up your speed points for the question.

A wrong answer earns no base points and no bonus. An answer that is not submitted before the window closes earns nothing either, so base points are only available to players who commit in time.

An example

In a hypothetical round, forty players in a contest answer yes to "Does the next play go for ten yards or more?" and the runner breaks off a twelve-yard gain. All forty receive the same base points. Their totals for the round still differ, because each one answered at a different moment and so earned a different speed bonus. The sixty players who answered no receive nothing for that round.

What base points do for the game

Base points make accuracy the foundation of every score. A player who answers every question correctly but slowly still builds a solid total, and a player who answers fast but wrong builds nothing. Speed can separate two accurate players; it cannot rescue an inaccurate one.

Across twelve questions, base points are the part of your score you control by knowing the game, and they carry you through the cuts, where the bottom of the field by points is removed.
