What a prop bet is

A prop bet, short for proposition bet, is a wager on something that happens inside a game rather than on who wins or by how much. Props cover players (passing yards, receptions, a touchdown scored), teams (first to score, total field goals) and the game itself (will there be a safety, will the opening drive end in points). Many are priced as an over/under; others are yes-or-no propositions at a set price.

Props let a fan follow the part of a game they care about, and they are the raw material of same game parlays and of daily fantasy pick em. The individual-statistic props are their own sub-category, player props. Most props are settled after the game, from the official statistics.

An example

Before kickoff a book offers "Will the first score of the game be a touchdown?" with yes at -170 and no at +140. A bettor takes yes for $17 to win $10. The opening drive stalls at the 30 and ends in a field goal, so the prop loses before the first quarter is out.

How Speed Survivor is different

A Speed Survivor live question can read like a prop: "Will the Bills score on this drive?" The differences are in how it is asked and how it is scored. It arrives during the game, generated from live conditions, and is open for a short window. Everyone in the contest answers the same question under the same timer. There is no price: a correct answer earns base points plus a speed bonus, whichever way it went.
