What responsible play is

Responsible play is the set of practices, tools and policies meant to keep paid contests and games a form of entertainment rather than a source of harm. On the player's side it means deciding in advance what you are willing to spend and sticking to it. On the operator's side it means giving players ways to hold themselves to that decision, such as a deposit limit or self-exclusion, and pointing people to help outside the game when they need it.

The underlying idea is simple. Money you enter into a contest is money you should be comfortable not getting back. Anything that pushes past that line, such as chasing a loss, playing to win back what is gone, or spending money meant for something else, is the signal to stop and use the tools that exist for exactly that moment.

An example

A player decides at the start of the football season how much they are willing to spend on contests each month, and sets a deposit limit at that amount. Midway through the season, after a bad weekend, they feel the urge to deposit more to make it back. The limit stops them. They take a week off, come back the next month within the same budget, and the season stays what it was meant to be: something fun to do during the games.

In Speed Survivor

Speed Survivor publishes its Responsible Play policy, which covers deposit limits, self-exclusion and where to get help outside the game. It is 18+, or 21+ where required, and void where prohibited. No purchase or payment is necessary to enter, to build a run, or to win, and free contests are available weekly, so there is always a way to play without spending anything.
