What a deposit match is

A deposit match is a welcome offer that adds promotional credit in proportion to a new player's first deposit. A 100% match up to a cap means the operator adds one dollar of credit for every dollar deposited, until the cap is reached. The credit is almost never cash. It is usually released in stages as the player plays, and it usually has to be used by a deadline, which is why the headline number and the terms behind it deserve equal attention. Sportsbooks, daily fantasy apps and contest platforms all run versions of it.

An example

Take a hypothetical 100% match with a $100 cap that releases gradually. A player deposits $100 and the offer shows $100 of match credit waiting. Not all of it is spendable on day one; each time the player pays for entries, a slice of the match unlocks. A player who deposits $40 is matched $40, not $100, because a match follows the deposit. A player who deposits $300 is still matched $100, because the cap is the cap.
