What sports trivia is

Sports trivia is any question-and-answer game about sports facts: who won a championship, which quarterback holds a record, what year a stadium opened. It rewards memory and depth of knowledge. The answers are fixed before the question is asked, which is what makes trivia fair to grade and easy to run anywhere, from a bar quiz night to a phone app with a daily set of questions.

Because the answers already exist, trivia can be played at any time and at any pace. Some formats add a timer to reward quick recall, and some add a leaderboard, but the underlying test is always the same: do you know what happened.

An example

A weekly bar trivia night runs a football round. The host asks which team won the first Super Bowl, which running back led the league in rushing a given season, and which coach has the most career wins. Teams write answers on a sheet, the host reads the correct ones, and the team with the most right wins the round. A fan who has followed the sport for decades has a clear edge over one who started watching last year.

How Speed Survivor is different

Speed Survivor asks about what will happen, not what did. Each of the twelve live questions in a contest is a yes-or-no about the next moment of a real NFL game, such as whether a drive ends in points, and nobody knows the answer when it is asked, not the entrants and not the company. The game itself settles it.

So the skill being tested shifts. Memory still helps, because knowing how a team plays on third down informs your read, but the deciding factor is judging the situation in front of you and committing quickly, since faster correct answers earn a larger speed bonus.
